Cactus to 10 ft. tall, One of about 200 species in the genus, native through deserts and grasslands in the Southwestern U.S. and through central Mexico. While attractive, this species has become a weedy pest often infesting rangeland after overgrazing, as new plants sprout easily from joints that fall to the ground.
